ISLAMABAD: Oil and Gas Development Company Limited (OGDC) has achieved a significant milestone by exceeding 40,000 barrels of oil per day (BOPD) for the first time in over six and a half years, marking a turnaround after a prolonged period of declining output.
The announcement was made by Managing Director and CEO Ahmed Hayat Lak, who termed the achievement a reflection of the company’s resilience, technical expertise, and strong organisational commitment.
OGDC officials attributed the recovery to sustained technical interventions, improved reservoir management, and enhanced coordination between operational and support teams—key factors that helped reverse declining production from mature oil fields.
Energy experts see this development as a positive signal for Pakistan’s oil and gas sector, which has faced challenges due to aging infrastructure and limited new discoveries. Higher domestic output is expected to modestly reduce reliance on imported crude oil, providing some relief to the country’s external account.
The company noted that this milestone is part of a broader transformation aimed at improving efficiency and adopting a performance-driven approach. OGDC is increasingly focusing on operational agility, timely decision-making, and long-term value creation.
“This milestone is not the destination but a foundation for greater achievements ahead,” Lak said, reaffirming the company’s commitment to further enhancing production and operational performance.
